Ten Years Ago Today...

....I stood on the summit of Mt Everest with some of my closest and dearest friends. Men that I call brothers. The bond that we have was established with the galvanizing effort of getting our blind buddy Erik as high up on the mountain as we possibly could...and back down safely again. This was a selfless journey...putting our own personal agendas on the back burner in order to achieve a success that would only be reached with the efforts of the team.

I look back on that day with an inspired and genuine satisfaction. That each one of us was putting out everything we had for the guy next to us. It is an amazingly empowering tool to know that you have surrounded yourself with individuals that are as committed to a cause as you are. It gives you strength and security that if you should stumble...if you should fall, your people have your back.

I learned a lot that day... about how to be a teammate, how to be a leader and how to dig down deep for something bigger than me. Now ten years later I realize how critical those lessons are to me as a husband, father and man.
